Madison Essig
Madison Essig is the first person with Down syndrome to graduate with a standard diploma from the District of Columbia Public Schools. Following her graduation from Wilson High School this past June, she spent the summer working as an intern for TASH and as a volunteer for the Democratic Party of Virginia/Hillary for America. She attended the MasonLife Program at George Mason University and was an active member of GMU’s Campus Democrats, Student Senate, Hillel, and Best Buddies.
Madison is a passionate advocate for inclusive education and has spoken at the White House’s celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs Project Managers Conference, among other engagements.
Madison intends to pursue a college degree and looks forward to a career in which she can work to promote inclusion and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
